GUBBIO
With a 45 minute driving from the agriturismo, you can reach the village of Gubbio, where since XII century it takes place the Corsa dei Ceri, wood statues carried in the city streets and up to the Basilica of Sant’Ubaldo, located in the upper side of the village. The Basilica can be reached by walking or by funicular.
From the suggestive square Piazza Grande, remarkable example of roof square, you can enjoy a lovely view on Umbria mountains; from the square it is possibile to access the Palazzo dei Consoli, built in the Middle Ages, today hosting the Gubbio Civic Museum.
ASSISI
The city of Assisi is very relevant thanks to its history and art, moreover it is the birth place of San Francesco and Santa Chiara, two of the most important saints of the christian religion, to whom the homonym Basilica churches are dedicated.
In addition to religious architecture, civil architecture is relevant too, for example the Rocca Maggiore, a fortress placed on the top part of the old town, and the roman archaelogical remains.
Outside the city centre of Assisi, going towards the Monte Subasio, it is possible to visit the Eremo delle Carceri, an hermitage which was used by San Francesco, and to do a walking along the mountain paths.
Close to Assisi, it is advised to perform a visit to the charming medieval village of Spello, which hosts a famous Infiorata flower festival during the religious celebration of the Corpus Domini, generally in May or June.
